How SkillPilot ranks
SkillPilot ranking methodology defines how we collect, verify, and publish adoption and trust signals for the AI skill ecosystem. We calculate developer traction from repository activity and install counts while routing candidates through mandatory safety gates, ensuring rankings remain reproducible and transparent.

The skills.sh hot signal, which compares the current hour with the same hour yesterday. It is labeled as a source signal, not a daily winner.
Largest seven-day percentage install gain, with a 100-install floor. Ties break by absolute gain, then total installs.
Most positions gained in the all-time install table across seven days. New entries are excluded until they have a comparison snapshot.
Largest seven-day GitHub star increase among catalog-matched repositories.
The highest current all-time install count. This is a factual leader and is exempt from the one-crown-per-skill rule.
Eligibility and integrity
- Minimum 100 total installs for momentum crowns.
- One momentum crown per skill per edition. Precedence is Winner Today, Fastest Rising, Biggest Mover, then Star Surge.
- New entrants can appear in Market Watch but cannot win a delta crown without a prior snapshot.
- Implausible changes above the sanity threshold are withheld for review.
- If a source fetch or schema validation fails, the last good edition remains visible and no partial dataset is published.
Trust gate
Momentum earns visibility. It does not earn an endorsement. Crown candidates receive a static file review plus attributed partner audit checks. A high-severity partner report or a failing SkillPilot finding blocks the crown and appears as an audit conflict. A missing audit means unknown, never safe.
Static analysis is conservative and can produce false positives. Open the evidence page before making a security decision.
Video walkthroughs
Tool pages carry up to three YouTube walkthroughs. They are third-party uploads matched to a tool, never made, reviewed or endorsed by SkillPilot, and a clip carries no weight in any ranking or trust decision.
- A candidate is kept only when the tool name or the repository name appears in the video title or channel name, and an ecosystem term or a catalog tag also appears. A generic tool name alone is never enough.
- Clips under 90 seconds, over four hours, or under 300 views are dropped.
- At most two clips per channel, so one creator cannot own a tool page.
- A tool with no qualifying coverage shows no video section. The shelf is never padded.
- View counts and publish months are captured at match time. The month is derived from a relative timestamp and is shown as approximate.

Sources and provenance
Install tables come from authenticated skills.sh API snapshots. GitHub stars, forks, releases, and commit dates come from the public GitHub API through the verified SkillPilot catalog. Each card states its scope and freshness.
